I still wear shorts for work. No-one has complained to me so far.

Weirdly, yes. City shorts are a stayer. While at first they looked a bit gauche for the office, they have now settled in to become the foundation of many business women’s summer wardrobes, combining as they do something mannish in their cut with something feminine below (hopefully a pair of glossy, tanned calves). Shorts are practical, smart, cool – what’s not to like? So it’s still worth investing in a pair; choose something tailored (beware the Bermuda!) and wear them with a crisp white shirt. It may be a uniform, but that’s because it works.
